Taking Control of Your Health.
Between flu, COVID-19, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus infection), it is important to keep up to date with your vaccines. In addition, exercise and sleeping enough are important for wellness.
Another way to boost immunity is through nutrition. Check out these 6 food categories to add to your diet:
1. Citrus Fruits: Oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, lemons, and limes are all high in Vitamin C, which helps fight infections.
2. B Vitamins: grains, meats, eggs, beans, and dairy products. Older adults often have an insufficient amount of Vitamin B12, so check with your doctor about supplements as well.
3. Selenium: Brazil nuts, seafoods, cereals, and dairy product have high levels of selenium.
4. Spices: garlic and ginger are easy to add for flavor when cooking, and they also are known for fighting infection and helping decrease inflammation. Garlic is said to help lower blood pressure and studies show ginger might have properties to lower cholesterol.
5. Almonds: foods like almonds (healthy fats) contain antioxidants and Vitamin E, which helps prevent and fight colds.
6. Fiber: increase your gut health with veggies, beans, nuts, seeds, or fermented foods such as yogurt and sauerkraut
